American Society is an introductory social studies class covering two semesters. In this semester’s class we will begin with the end of World War II and progress to the present day. Your regular attendance and careful organization of notes, handouts and other materials will help you be successful on the exams, assignments and projects for this course. Please do not hesitate to ask for my assistance at any time; email is the best way to contact me outside of class.
REQUIRED MATERIALS
1. Writing utensils – blue or black ink is required for assignments
2. Notebook – spiral is recommended, and a pocket folder for handouts
3. A covered textbook
COURSE REQUIREMENTS AND EXPECTATIONS
- Regular (and on time) attendance
- Thoughtful, respectful participation in all class activities
- You are responsible for monitoring all class requirements, all assignments and materials, and timely submission of all work.
- If you are absent from class you are expected to find out what you have missed and make up work promptly. Unacceptably late work may not receive full point credit.
GRADING
There will be a variety of tests, assignments and projects throughout the semester. This is the grade scale that will be used to assess your work.
A 94 – 100%
A- 93 – 90%
B+ 89 – 87%
B 86 – 83%
B- 82 – 80%
C+ 79 – 77%
C 76 – 73%
C- 72 – 70%
D+ 69 – 67%
D 66 – 63%
D- 62 – 60%
F 59 – 0%
Grades are rounded up from .5 and down from .49
